此《黎芳中国摄影集》出自苏格兰国家美术馆藏《黎芳中国摄影集》，内含华芳照相馆拍摄的中国相关照片五十五幅。其内照片多为中国各地的风景纪实（主要为福建地区）、人物肖像（包括一幅黎芳的肖像） 。
黎芳生于1839年，原籍广东，少年时迁居香港，20岁时进入外国人开办的照相馆学习摄影，而立之年在香港挂牌阿芳照相馆，开始了职业生涯。他的作品得到世界范围的认可，英国摄影史学家泰瑞·贝内特称其为“19世纪中国最优秀的摄影师”“成就不亚于同时期的那些西方同行。”他的商业眼光成就了“晚最清成功的照相馆”。他的艺术理念根植于中国文化传统，对后世中国摄影师的文化心理和美学取向产生深远影响。
